How good is your immune system?

I am concerned that Americans are not prepared to fight the fight against coronavirus. The SAD (Standard American Diet) is full of sugar and carbohydrates, low in fruits and vegetables. Our sedentary lifestyles, lack of sleep and high level of stress from modern living suppress our immune systems. Prediabetes, diabetes, and obesity are risk factors for infections.

Nourish EMB has a simple message to help you boost your immune system.

Eat whole foods, lots of color which ensure you are getting those immune boosting essential vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients. Consider taking a good quality multivitamin daily.

I personally take a multivitamin, vitamin D 2000 IU, and omega 3 daily. During this coronavirus outbreak, I am taking extra zinc 15-25 mg once per day, copper 1-2 mg per day, and Vitamin C 500 mg 2-3 times per day for extra immune support. If you choose to take a multivitamin, please get a high quality multivitamin. I personally recommend Douglas labs Ultra Preventive 2 Daily or Designs for Health Twice Daily Multi. If you have prediabetes or diabetes, you may consider the Designs for Health Metabolic synergy instead. If you develop viral symptoms, then increase your zinc intake to 25 mg 3 times per day for 2-4weeks along with your multivitamin.

Move daily. Exercise has been proven to boost your immune system and decrease stress. Find something that you enjoy doing. Try something new. Find an exercise buddy - do a virtual walk together.

Breathe and stress less. Stress will impair your immune system. Try meditating daily. This will decrease your cortisol level (elevated cortisol levels increase your blood sugar and impairs your immune system). I recommend several apps: Calm, Insight timer, Ten percent happier.

I personally use Ten percent happier. And remember to sleep! This is when your body can recover and repair itself. Eight hours of good restful sleep is recommended. If you snore, take this quiz to see if you may have sleep apnea. https://www.resmed.com

Go outside and get some vitamin D naturally. Surround yourself in nature. Maybe do yoga under a tree instead of indoors. Take a walk. Ride your bike.

Over the next few months, I will be asking wellness providers in our community to contribute with webinars and blogs that will help support you and your family. Please email info@nourishemb.com if you have any topics you would like covered. If you are a wellness provider, please email me if you would like to contribute. If you are a front line health care provider, please contact Ten percent happier for a free account.

Thank you for being part of the Nourish EMB community. We are here for you! Stay healthy and be well!
